Scope
This project came to life during my time at Stimulo, a renowned design agency based in Barcelona. One of its clients, Aimplas, aimed to integrate and showcase the cutting-edge technologies they were developing in a product that could seamlessly fit into people's daily lives—used in real-world scenarios while promoting sustainable and efficient solutions. This vision led to the creation of this project, where we decided to bring these innovations into an electric scooter and a smart helmet.
At Stimulo, our role was to develop all the hardware for the scooter. As the project leader, I was responsible for a wide range of tasks: full design execution, 3D rendering, weekly client communication, prototyping, supplier management, and more.
Over 25 professionals were involved in this project, with more than 50 presentations delivered and over 100 parts prototyped. All of this was structured across 9 sprints over 7 months.
This electric scooter and smart helmet integrate a range of advanced technologies that set them apart from anything currently on the market.
Starting with the scooter, it features heated handlebars that reach around 45-50ºC, making rides more comfortable in colder conditions. At the extremes of the handlebars, integrated turn signals synchronize with those on the helmet, enhancing safety and visibility. The front LED headlight is adjustable across five brightness levels, adapting to different lighting conditions.
As soon as you step onto the scooter, a presence-sensing matrix in the base activates the underglow lighting, casting a guiding light onto the ground. The helmet connects to the scooter via RFID and, in addition to mirroring the turn signals, also includes a brake light. If the helmet isn’t worn while riding, a warning signal appears on the display.
All of this is seamlessly controlled through a touch-sensitive interface on the top of the scooter, making interaction intuitive and effortless.
Pretty cool, right?
